a million thank you's

prompted to make thank you cards for aiga's studio tours, i decided to make not 3 cards, but around 70. because why make one when you can mass produce and look back at how productive you can be in an afternoon. i guess i'll never have to buy thank you cards again. or i might sell them on etsy if i could resurrect p's and q's press as my username and store name. if only they would allow apostrophes in user names. so for now i'll wait until i come up with a better user name. any suggestions? the site says "make it good because you can't change it later"

also, how much would you pay for a set of 8-10 thank you cards and corresponding envelopes? they are letterpress, printed with clear ink [kind of iridescent], 3.75"x9" and fit into a long envelope i will buy at paper source on wednesday. i would only sell around 3 sets because i still want to keep some for my use. i just think i don't need 60.

What are we eating?

My mom just sent me this washington post article about carbon monoxide. Apparently the meat industry is using carbon monoxide to make meat appear red. If they add a low level of it, the gas stays in the meat keeping it fresh looking, regardless of what it actually looks like. Target is asking the USDA for permission to include a warning label on all of their meat packages that use carbon monoxide.

This just resonates with a lot of what I'm finding out more and more from my agriculture research and asks the question, "what are we eating?"

Its amazing to me the amount of fertilizers and pesticides used on food that the general public is just not aware of. The new york times just published an article a couple weeks ago mentioning the 5 organic foods that have the most impact on your diet and the organic industry. Did you know that apples have the most pesticides and fertilizers used of all fruits?

So I am very shocked that something like carbon monoxide is used and there is no label mentioning that currently. It all ties into how our choices about what we are eating and buying are really decided on a government level.

Logo Workshop

Hey everyone [all two readers....]
Here is my logo from my logo workshop I just completed. It is a logo for the San Francisco Baykeepers. They are a non-profit group that protects the water from pollutants and keeps it clean. I chose to create an illustrated lighthouse that conjures images of safety and protection [hopefully]. after working on it for two days, it started to look a lot more like a bee keeper in a towel than a lighthouse.

humpday christmas ornaments!

Its time to get ready for Christmas! Here is the template for all of us to make our own imacchristmas ornaments. You just cut it out and glue the folds together. And it comes with 4 screen savers to swap out. which i just think is the best thing i've heard all day. or possibly all month. no, that's not true, i'm pretty into my thesis research. but this definitely tops my week. and its only wednesday!

I wanted to mention this song because it is wonderful.... Its an Architecture in Helsinki song played by Dr.Dog. You should all get it and you won't regret it.

Cat Ladies Freak Me Out

I've been doing my thesis research and came across this in a book about symbols. Thought you all might enjoy it as much as I did. After the cat lady symbol, my next favorite is the one telling people everywhere you can sleep in their hayloft. finally. because there is nothing i am more confused about besides who's hayloft can i sleep in. and a graphic symbol telling me quickly is perfect. because there's just no time when you are in a hayloft emergency situation.
